Commitments to a Placement at SAIL
A therapy placement and volunteering is a big commitment. To provide a consistent service to our clients, and to work ethically:
We require counsellors to:
- Work with a minimum of three clients – Our sessions are a full hour in length, and you would need an additional 15 minutes after each client to write notes, have a break etc. The time commitment on your counselling day would be around four hours.
- Attend a clinical caseload management meeting at least every two months. These last up to an hour.
We require Creative Therapists to
- Attend regular supervision/caseload management meetings in accordance with course requirements.
We require all volunteer and placement therapists
- to attend Counsellor Development Days (once a quarter on a Saturday) and CPD opportunities (often online). These activities can be counted as CPD/Work-Based Learning hours.
We offer:
- Counsellors – monthly group supervision, which lasts for three hours, paid for by SAIL.
- Creative therapists – placement supervision that meets course requirements.
- Travel expenses
- Admin support to maintain boundaries
- CPD opportunities
SAIL has a young people’s counselling service in addition to its adult service. If you wish to work with 14–17-year-olds we will ask for evidence that your course covers working with this age group.
